The Milton Community Food Pantry recently received a donation of $2,500 from Convergence Communities.
The funds will be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, meats, and canned and dry goods to be distributed to those in need in the Milton area.
“This is a wonderful surprise,” said Donna Murawski, president of the Milton Community Food Pantry. “We want to thank Convergence for supporting the food pantry and assure them that we will put their donation to good use.”
“As someone who grew up in the area, I am humbled to support this vital organization. Our team knows there are people struggling to make ends meet, and we want to help in any way we can,” said Colby Cox, founder of Convergence Communities.
In July, Convergence announced plans for a 1,350-unit master planned community called the Granary at Draper Farm. It also submitted an application to have the 450-acre site, located at Sand Hill Road and Gravel Hill Road, annexed by the Town of Milton. Cox is the property owner.
The Milton Planning and Zoning commission unanimously voted Dec. 21 to send an advisory report to Milton Town Council recommending the annexation of the 450 acres with an R-2 with LPD zoning classification.
The Milton Community Food Pantry was established in 2014 and feeds 85 families or about 285 adults and children three meals a day for three days a week, which works out to more than 130,000 meals a year. The pantry is supported by volunteers and donations.
“We take pride in supporting families that are having difficulties,” Murawski said. “We see pockets of hidden poverty and are working to feed as many people as possible. We do not want residents, especially older ones, to be forced to choose between purchasing their medication or food.”
